Privacy Policy

Effective July 29, 2026

Plain-English summary: We collect the info you give us (name, email, project photos, payment method) and a little we observe (device, IP). We use it to run the marketplace, process payments through Stripe, and send you email. We don't sell your data.

01Information We Collect

Account data: name, email, phone, role (customer, contractor, admin), password hash, profile photo, business address, licenses/insurance for contractors.
Project & booking data: descriptions, uploaded photos and files (including EXIF timestamps for verification), addresses, budgets, timelines, messages between users.
Payment data: handled by Stripe. We receive tokenized card metadata (last 4 digits, brand, expiry) but never the full card number.
Usage & device data: IP address (hashed for analytics), user agent, referrer, pages visited, tap/click events, install source (e.g., /i/tiktok).
Cookies & local storage: session token, install-prompt state, referral attribution.

02How We Use It

Operate the marketplace — match bids, run bookings, process payments, send notifications.
Communicate with you about your account, bookings, payments, and marketing (with unsubscribe options for marketing).
Verify identity, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, comply with legal obligations (tax, subpoena, court order).
Improve the Platform — analytics, bug fixes, A/B tests on non-sensitive UI.
Attribute referrals and marketing sources for install growth.

03Third-Party Services We Rely On

Stripe (payments, Connect payouts) — governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.
SendGrid (transactional email) — Twilio/SendGrid Privacy.
Google (OAuth login) — governed by Google Privacy Policy.
MongoDB — encrypted database storage.
Emergent Object Storage — image/file uploads.
Emergent LLM (AI project analysis and cost estimates) — uploaded photos may be sent to an AI model to generate insights; no personal identifiers are attached.
OpenStreetMap (map tiles) — for location display.

04How We Share Data

We share your information with (a) the other party of a transaction on the Platform (e.g., a Contractor sees the Customer's project details and address for a booking), (b) the third-party services listed above solely to operate the Platform, and (c) government or law-enforcement agencies when legally required. We do not sell your personal data.

05Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to comply with tax, audit, dispute, and regulatory obligations (typically 7 years). You may request deletion of your account and data at any time (see Section 7).

06Security

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest, hashed passwords (bcrypt), scoped JWT tokens, and access controls. No system is 100% secure — please use a strong unique password and enable two-factor authentication when available.

07Your Rights

Depending on your state or country of residence, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct or update inaccurate data.
Delete your account and associated personal data ("right to be forgotten").
Object to or restrict certain processing.
Data portability — receive a copy of your data in machine-readable format.
Withdraw consent for marketing at any time via the unsubscribe link in emails.

08Children

The Platform is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected data from a minor, contact us and we will delete it.

09International Users

The Platform is operated from the United States. If you access it from outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have different data-protection laws than your country.

10Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect.
